I moved to Iceland to be with my Dutch husband, Matthijs. We often go on drives together in the countryside. Coming from such a big city and being surrounded by nature is novel to me. This incredible landscape is spotted with sheep and horses. The green moss here is saturated with water and color. The often cold gray skies only accentuate it making the scene moody and otherworldly. Living here has undoubtedly changed the vibe of my work.
My current line of textiles is intended for warmer climates. I designed my backpacks for beach travel in Mexico and imagined them amongst the alluring architecture of Luis Barragan.
Currently, I am working on weavings with Icelandic Lopi and horse hair. They have a cozy feel to them. I imagine them looking right at home in a black Scandinavian style home. It’s wild how a place can affect one's style. Now to get to the real reason I'm writing this post... inspiration. The bangs on that horse!
